Turner International Latin America Networks (TILA)

In November 2001, the Institute of Law and Economics (ILE) became the local agent for Turner Broadcasting System Latin America Inc., aiming to promote awareness and enforcement of intellectual property (IP) rights in Jamaica. This partnership not only helped protect both foreign and local IP, but also benefited businesses by offering legal guidance, improving efficiency, negotiating better deals, and educating the public on the value of paid content and copyright compliance.

January 2010

Business Legal Aid Centre (BLAC)

The Business Legal Aid Centre, founded by Dr. Rosalea Hamilton, was created in response to a 2009 assessment revealing that many MSMEs lacked access to affordable, tailored legal services. Since then, the Centre has expanded its offerings through partnerships and volunteer support, providing a wide range of legal and compliance services—from business registration and contracts to intellectual property protection and tax counseling—to help small businesses navigate legal challenges effectively.

Business Entrepreneurial Empowerment Programme (BEEP)

The Business Entrepreneurial Empowerment Programme (BEEP) provides basic entrepreneurial training to MSMEs to assist them in formalizing their business activities and to achieve minimum business standards in key areas, including Legal Compliance, Accounting, Financial Literacy, Computer Literacy, Business Management and Planning. Delivered through the Institute of Law & Economics, the BEEP will assist MSMEs in improving their Business Risk Rating and will facilitate their access to financing under preferential arrangements.

April 2015

Organization of American States (OAS)

Implemented by the Department of Public Security of the OAS in partnership with the Trust for the Americas and funded by USAID, A New Path aimed to improve the quality and accessibility of reintegration services for juvenile detainees in Jamaica. The project responded to high rates of youth delinquency and the significant barriers young people face when reentering society.
